Born in 1943 as the eldest son of a shepherd family, Bruno Jelk helped early on in the Alps. After working as a border guard and guide he came in 1972 to Air Zermatt. 1980 he was appointed to chief of rescue.
The knowledge and skills of Bruno Jelk is in demand worldwide . In August 2012, he was asked to raise an avalanche service and the ambulance service in Sotschi. He accepted the challenging task and mastered it with great success. The media hailed him as our heroes of Sotschi ’ . In the Himalayas he helped ibuilding a rescue station. Working as a mountain rescuer is very demanding. Also for the psyche. There are not only survivors. How does he deal with it? "It can not be learned . Either you have the ability to handle it or not." No sleepless nights ? "I have a principle that helps me to sleep well: Always go out . We head out in any weather. Even if we have to realize that a operation is not possible , we have tried everything."
